Jasper Over Blue
This is a Slab Pot made from white stoneware.
I used an iron based red glaze on a rope rim, over a summer sky blue glaze on the outside and a mountain moss glaze on the inside.
I like showing the seam on slab pots. It shows that the pot was hand-built, I used a stairway seam to seal the wall.

The pots in this series are hand-built slab-pots made of high-fired stoneware. Slab pots are made by rolling out a flat slab of clay, then forming the slab into the shape of the pot. I usually add a rim that is on the heavy side.
Most of the features are functional to the pot’s construction. The imprint on the seam is stitching, assuring a strong seal. Coils over the lip are used to re-enforce the coil joint.
I make these thinking of Early American Crockery; beautifully simple, straight-walled, functional pots. I also like how this shape lends itself to the full range of colors options, size, usage and design.
