White Over Stone
This is a Slab Pot made from white stoneware.
I used a heavy white glaze over bare red stoneware. This pot was inspired after visiting snow covered mesas in Colorado.
The seam is sealed in a pattern of repeating squares.
6 1/2” dia x 6 1/2” high.

The pots in this series are hand-built slab-pots made of high-fired stoneware. Slab pots are made by rolling out a flat slab of clay, then forming the slab into the shape of the pot. I usually add a rim that is on the heavy side.
Most of the features are functional to the pot’s construction. The imprint on the seam is stitching, assuring a strong seal. Coils over the lip are used to re-enforce the coil joint.
I really like this basic shape. It is beautifully simple; a straight-walled, functional pot. I also like how this shape lends itself to the full range of colors options, size, usage and design.
Castle Rock Mesa, just south of Denver, juts up and alone above the flat east of the Front Range. The mesa wears its snow like a royal robe.
